Guardians of the Galaxy 3 [What to Expect?]

We are a week removed from the world premiere of Avengers: Endgame and the film delivered on huge fan service, from the casual viewer of the MCU to the biggest comic book readers. By the end of the film all our favorite heroes who were snapped were brought back to life including the Guardians of the Galaxy. After Tony’s funeral scene we see Thor leave New Asgard and appoint Valkyrie as Queen of New Asgard. Thor leaves with Rocket and the rest of the Guardians as Peter Quill searches for Gamora. With Thor’s new tonal shift after Ragnarok he became a more comedic character and a better fit to join the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Endgame brought a lot of finality to some characters and also left us with new adventures we can’t wait to see. Speculation has already begun that the next Guardians of the Galaxy film is set to start production in 2020 with a 2021 release. No one has been announced to return from the original Guardians nor has Chris Hemsworth been announced to be joining the cast.
Fan theories have been rampant on what the story would be for Volume 3 of the franchise. After Endgame we have a semblance of what it could be. With 2014 Gamora traveling to 2023 we now have a Gamora that hasn’t lived or experienced the adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy. This also means that our Gamora we came to know and love is permanently dead. So, that just leaves us with a space opera romcom as the next Guardians film. We can assume that Guardians 3 will be about searching and finding Gamora with Quill trying to get her to fall in love with him again. If Thor is still with the Guardians in Vol. 3 this could also pose a comedic obstacle for Chris Pratt’s Star Lord as he tries to impress Gamora while also fighting off Thor’s natural good looks. Part of this story was set up in Avengers: Infinity War when the Guardians save Thor from the wreckage of his ship. Gamora is impressed with Thors physique and the Guardians poke fun at Quill for being jealous. With Thor and Nebula joining the team it will be interesting to see what the dynamic with all the characters are after the events of Infinity War and Endgame. Quill, Drax, Groot, and Mantis have been gone for 5 years while Rocket, Nebula and Thor have been in contact on and off in those past 5 years. How those newly formed relationships affect the team will be enjoyable to see. James Gunn has since been reinstated by Disney to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after controversial tweets surfaced. James Gunn is set to direct the new Suicide Squad film later this year or next.
