Marvel's Loki series on Disney+

It was rumored late last year that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki would be getting his own series on the Disney streaming service Disney+. With the rumor then eventual announcement by Hiddleston himself, fans were left wondering how this series would shape up as Loki was killed off in Avengers: Infinity War attempting to save Thor in a last ditch effort to assassinate Thanos. Many speculated that the series would be a prequel of sorts following Loki and his adventures up to his untimely death or even a young Loki with Hiddleston narrating the show. Another show that was rumored to be in production was a Scarlet Witch/Vision series, fans and entertainment outlets assumed that the events in Avengers 4 (at the time) would address or hint to these shows by bringing back the fallen heroes. It’s now the end of April and the talk of the world is Avengers: Endgame and everything it concluded but what it also set up for the future so this is what we think/know/want after seeing Endgame.

Warning: Avengers: Endgame Spoilers

Avengers: Endgame introduced the ability of time travel via the Quantum Realm. With this device/plot point we assumed that the remaining Avengers would find a way to bring back all the fallen heroes including Loki, Heimdall, and Vision who were not snapped but killed by Thanos. So let’s explain this carefully; Tony, Scott, Bruce and Steve return to 2012 to the attack on New York from the first Avengers film to collect the Mind, Time, and Space Stones. While trying to acquire the tesseract which holds the Space stone the heist goes sideways and the Tesseract slides right in front of Loki’s feet. Loki picks up the Tesseract and uses it to escape. In the original timeline (we’ll call it Prime-Timeline) Loki was caught at the end of Avengers and taken to Asgard as a prisoner by Thor. With the interference by Tony & Scott and Loki getting the Tesseract then escaping, they create the first branch in the timeline or a new alternate timeline, one that does not affect the Prime-timeline. This theory/fan speculation suggests that we will follow the adventures of this Loki who never gets his redemption and instead goes off to cause mischief in the universe with the Tesseract/Space Stone in his Disney+ show. As a storytelling device, you keep the integrity of the original Loki and his journey to redemption while also creating new stories to tell with alternate timeline #2 Loki. This theory is a big “What if?” and possibly the show could be a spin on “What if Loki..”.

At this time there is no news as to whether or not that is the story and direction Marvel and Disney are choosing to move forward with. There is however a third version of Loki not talked about by many of the big outlets that have been covering Avengers: Endgame & the Disney+ shows that have been announced and that is with 2014 Thanos dead there is now a version of Loki who joins Thor at the end of Ragnarok and lives because Thanos would already be dead in this new timeline, so the attack on the ship carrying all of Asgard’s people never happens. But if you remember, at the end of Thor: Ragnarok Loki does take the Tesseract from the vault before Asgard is destroyed, so there are now 2 alternate timelines where Loki is alive and holding the Tesseract/Space Stone. Sorry for geeking out there but the story of Loki’s Disney+ show is infinite and we couldn’t be more excited for the news to come. So what do you think? What are your theories on the new Loki series?
