As the CW ramps up their cast list for the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover many fans since the start of the Arrowverse when Flash & Supergirl were added to the universe were wondering if Smallville, the show that came before Arrow and is the godfather for all of the CW’s Superhero programming would be part of this expanded universe. Little by little actors from previous shows had made their return to DC, John Wesley Shipp reprised his role as Barry Allen aka The Flash from the original Flash series in the 90’s in last years crossover while also playing Henry Allen and Jay Garrick in the Arrowverse. The list goes on with the many returning faces to the DC TV universe the CW has drawn out.

This week we were gifted with the surprising news that Tom Welling who played Clark Kent in Smallville would be reprising his iconic role for the Crisis crossover. No details were released on how or why Welling’s Clark Kent will factor into the crossover or if he will don the suit he most infamously never wore when the series was still on air. Announced this week as well was the return of Erica Durance as Lois Lane in the crossover, Erica Durance is no stranger to the Arrowverse as she replaced Laura Benanti as Alura Zor El (Kara’s mother) in Supergirl. As of now we have 3 confirmed actors playing Superman/Clark Kent in the crossover, Brand Routh (in a never before seen Kingdom Come Superman), Tyler Hoechlin, and Tom Welling. The interesting thing to note is whether Michael Rosenbaum will be returning as Lex Luthor as many fans consider him to be best if not the definitive Lex. Welling & Rosenbaum have been hitting the Comic Con circuit as of late and have been open about the lack of communication between the actors and The CW but after this news maybe there is more to these castings. Either way we are excited to see what the CW as planned for this crossover which has already confirmed Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, Melissa Benoist, Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Ruby Rose and their perspective casts along with Kevin Conroy as an older Bruce Wayne/Batman from another earth, Tom Welling, Erica Durance, and possibly more surprises as this story continues to develop.
