Saint Motel kicked off their Motion Picture Show Tour just over a month ago and brought the incredible duo band of KOLARS along for the ride. One of their stops was at the newest and popular venue on the Delmar Loop.. Delmar Hall. A SOLD OUT show on a Monday night is a big feat for anyone but that is how much the STL crowd is passionate about Saint Motel and their music that they would come out for the established band. Now what I love about going to Delmar Hall is wondering what opening acts will win me over and make a fan out of me. KOLARS took the stage and from the start they had me. The band is comprised of Rob Kolar and Lauren Brown, Rob has a familiar voice and tone that catches your ear and has you singing along. His energy is infectious as he moves across the stage strutting with his guitar, at moments I got Elvis Presley vibes. I can’t put my finger on it as to why but that’s what I got from his presence on stage. Lauren Brown on the drums was a unique and welcome change to the usual drum set up. She stood on a wooden drum head and tapped danced in between her playing the drums. Her energy as well was so contagious I found myself tapping my foot without even noticing. Together they tore it up and I would dare say made it hard for Saint Motel to follow.

After a great set from KOLARS the headliners were next, Saint Motel took the stage with their Motion Picture Show theme. The show had a 4 Act structure, A.J. comes from the side of the stage pit and emerges to the crowds delight. “Cold Cold Man” kicked off the set, a classic from the band. AJ hopped around the stage and onto the barricade singing with the fans at a sold out show. First time seeing them live and I was happy with what I got. I got to hear some of my favorites like the aforementioned “Cold Cold Man”, “Puzzle Pieces”, “Move” & “My Type”. While there I also got to enjoy songs I hadn’t heard before like “Sweet Talk” and “Destroyer”. Overall I like the packaged present that was this show. Along with A.J., Aaron Sharp, Greg Erwin & Dak Lerdamornpong took the stage and added their energy to the night as they all synced up for amazing riffs on the guitar, the lying undertones of the bass and the bombastic feeling of the drums. The show was fun with lots of surprises & cool visuals coming from the stage with a pretty good stage production. So, what can you expect if you plan to see Saint Motel live? I wouldn’t want to spoil much but I can tell you that you will enjoy yourself, so bring a friend or make one at the show because you’ll be dancing along to their songs while also singing at the top of your lungs.
